ATKV-ANIMATO CHOIR COMPETITION: 26 - 29 SEPTEMBER 2013
PARTICIPATION AND COMPETITION RULES:

CRITERIA:

A CHOIR PROGRAM of 15 to 20 minutes is required and must include:

1. The selected prescribed work (see below)
2. Classical work from the Romantic era
3. Traditional Folk song from your country
4. Contemporary Classical work

Please note:

1. TWO of the above must be performed in a cappella.

2. PRESCRIBED WORK for 2013. Each choir category can choose between one of two prescribed works which is available on request from e-mail animato@cultourafrica.co.za. Prescribed work is in Afrikaans, one of the 11 official languages of South Africa, and the most widely language spoken by South Africans.

RULES:

1. Accompaniment is not restricted to the piano only.

2. Choir benches, a music stand and a piano will be provided. It is the responsibility of the choir to move the piano if they wish to do so.

3. The decision of the judges is final.

4. Three clearly marked copies of each music piece must be sent to the organisers before 28 February 2013 including a cover page containing the following information:

5. Results may not be requested before completion of the competition.

6. Only choirs booking its event package and accommodation through Cultour Africa, appointed by ATKV-Animato, will qualify to enter the competition. All inclusive services are described under Competition Package  

7. By entering the competition choirs accept and undertake to abide by the rules of the ATKV-Animato Competition.

8. Enquiries must be referred to the ATKV-Animato organisers and not to the judges.

9. Not abiding by the rules may lead to disqualification.

10. Choirs and its members that enter the competition indemnify ATKV-Animato and Cultour Africa from claims resulting from any damage or loss whatsoever that any member may suffer during the competition.

11. Age / Number limits:   






Children’s choirs 16 years
Youth choirs 24 years (Mixed / Girls / Boys)
University choirs 26 years
Adult Chamber choirs (Mixed / Male / Female) (12 - 24 singers)
Adult choirs (Mixed / Male / Female) (Minimum 25 singers)

PLEASE NOTE: 10% of all choir members may be older than the age limit.

COPYRIGHT ACT

1. Where unpublished compositions or (arrangements) are used, the choirs themselves are responsible to arrange for:
• The right to duplicate the music pieces.
• The right to perform the music pieces

2. The choirs must themselves get permission from the composer or arranger to perform the piece(s) of music.

3. If choirs use published pieces of music, they are not allowed to make any changes to it.

4. Copies of music pieces that are provided to the judges will only be used for judging purposes and will be destroyed after the competition if the choir does not collect it.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS 28 FEBRUARY 2013

Registration fees are R30.00 (South African Rand) per choir member. Bank details are on the registration form. Bank charges are for your own account.

Proof of payment must accompany the registration form.

This can either be faxed or emailed to the contact details provided on the registration form.

No fees are refundable should a choir withdraw from the competition. If ATKV-Animato cancels the competition the registration fees will be refunded.

SUPPORTING MATERIAL TO ACCOMPANY YOUR REGISTRATION:

1. Competition programme (composition’s and composer’s name, length of the composition)

2. CD/DVD sound recording of the choir not older than 3 years

3. A CV of the choir and the conductor

4. A photo of the choir

5. 3 Copies of the music scores of the competition repertoire as described under rules point 4.
